You have seen this too.. too many people using Technical Indicators suggested by “experts” without understanding their construction, behavior or strengths/weaknesses

Agreed, TigerAl. You have to figure out which parameters you are comfortable and which will work for you. For that matter, you have to first determine if technical indicators are even useful to you.

And it may be that 5 and 15 are not the right window sizes for the moving average calculation, there is more variation “smoothing” with larger MA windows so it may take some trial and error and regular adjustment to find useful ones.
