August 28th, 2009Seattle Brix Condo Auction – 20% Not Enough
The Brix condos in Seattle’s Capital Hill were completed sometime in 2008, but with very dismal sales. Despite the low sales they were content on keeping the prices abnormally high (even for a strong market, which this is not). Earlier this summer, they sent out an e-mail blast announcing price cuts of as much as 20% below original prices. It was a good start, but still not enough to spur sales, and now it looks like they have had enough. This morning’s e-mail blast announced the new auction style pricing, with the auction set for September 27th at 1pm. Here is a sample of their price sheet.

I don’t know if you know Seattle well, but Capital Hill is one of the dodgiest and highest crime areas in the city. No wonder no one wants these places.

It is obvious that feminism has been successful. Even at the low end, these prices are insane. But, I guess if you are secure in your job
(working for the federal or local) government you don’t mind paying ridiculous prices. And to all of you unemployed men out there, how do you like it! Your days of working are over…. Too bad you don’t have the safety net that your female counterparts would have…. Suffer in peace…

Carioca Canuck:
I don’t know if you know Seattle well, but Capitol Hill’s crime density (in the denser commercial areas) is no worse than any other part of the city’s core or even the U. District or Fremont, and it’s better than them out in the more residential sections (I’m not sure where the Brix units in particular are located). Oh yeah, I’ll also go ahead and provide a reference, instead of making unfounded assertions: http://web1.seattle.gov/mnm/?tabId=3
And dodgiest? Yeah right, I’ll take Capitol Hill over Pioneer Square or Belltown any day.
Anyway, looks like their initial prices were just way too high. I paid something comparable to their current prices for my condo about a year ago.

Carioca Canuck’s opinions are definitely based on the past. Capitol Hill has gentrified. It’s also the gayest part of the city. Not sure if that’s what qualifies as “dodgy.”

Really, Canuck? What does “dodgiest” even mean?
